Finn, rogue

Finn was born in the village of Elmshire. As a boy, Finn spent much of his time in the hills, hunting with his father. He had a natural talent for spotting animals in the brush (origin of Alertness feat) and being able to walk unnoticed through the woods (origin of Sneakiness Feat) honed by hours and hours spent in the hills and woods.

When Finn was 10, his father died. With no one to support the family in Elmshire, Finn's mother took him to the City of Greyhawk to live with her family. Finn's maternal family took the two in and found ways for them to become productive members of Greyhawk society.

At the age of 11, Finn was apprenticed to Locke and Bolt, one of the premier locksmiths in all of the City. Finn excelled as an apprentice and seemed to have a natural talent for manipulating mechanical devices (origin of Nimble Fingers feat). Finn seemed on his way up and well liked by all of the masters and all apprentices save one – Talclin.

Talclin was jealous of the ease with which Finn could fix/open locks. Unknown to everyone, Talclin was also a plant from the Thieves Guild, intent on getting inside information on the construction of the finest locks in Greyhawk. Finn discovered the truth about Talclin and was going to go to the masters about the traitor in their ranks. That very night, a burglary occurred at Locke and Bolt. The masters were found dead, shop ransacked, money missing, and two of Finn's dagger's found lodged in the backs of the masters. In the dead master's hand was a letter that implicated Finn in the sale of information to a third party.

Quickly, the City Watch put two plus two together and got three. It was “obvious” that Finn, in anger at being discovered, killed the masters and took what he could. Of course, the City Watch neglected to review the fact that Finn had been out with several of the apprentices for most of the night. Finn was arrested later that day for the murders and robbery. On the way to the jail, Finn used his mechanical abilities to get out of the manacles and his finely honed hunting skills to escape the watch. He attempted to return to his family, but everyone, including his mother, disowned him and threw him out of the house.

Finn, distraught and bitter, decided that if the City Watch thought the worst of him, that he was a murderer and a thief, he may as well become one and profit by it. Two nights after his arrest, Talclin was found dead from a sudden stop at the end of a long fall. Finn (not his real name or the name that's listed on his WANTED poster) has found that the skills honed in the hills around Elmshire and the many hours spent learning about mechanisms to be very effective in his new career as burglar.

Finn, fearing the heat from the City Watch, and in his heart of hearts, looking for a career that doesn't involve crime, has taken up with his new party. Finn is looking for his adventures to help him gain fame, fortune and respect.
